Thanksgiving thoughts...

Image
Yeah for Thanksgiving week! I was not feeling very grateful today when, after riding the exercise bike and getting all sweaty, I turned on the shower and got a promising blast of water which turned into a trickle and then completely stopped. So I got my sweaty self out of the shower, got dressed, and called our landlord. You see this is the second time this has happened since we've lived in this apartment (3 months) and I was feeling a little bothered. (Last time my neighbor was in the shower when the water was turned off, so came over with shampoo in her hair to see if I knew what was going on. All I could do was offer her some of our bottled water.) So I decided to go to Target to re-order some pictures we got in which they cut out about 1/4 of my head. I figured I could use their bathroom and wash my hands there if I needed to change Marian's diaper. Well, I got to Target (a 15-minute drive) and realized I had forgotten the pictures, even though I distinctly remembered carry

Halloween!!

Marian is a true Birk--already a candy addict. For Halloween, I'd let her suck on wrapped candy. She'd suck until she went through the wrapper. Then after all her hard work and finally tasting the sweet candy, I'd take it away. This is the progression: 1) insert hand into bucket 2)stuff as much candy as possible in mouth 3) Why can't I do this every day? Halloween is awesome! She relies on it as her primary mode of transportation. And finally, all three of us on Halloween. Adam was a doctor, I was an attorney, and, of course, Chicken Little. I couldn't figure out how to distinguish myself as an attorney. I finally figured it out but we were already trick-or-treating: tape a "One Call That's All" sign on my back. After all, that is "The Attorney" as we all know from every fr

Adam got an exciting phone call last week, offering him an internship in the Hong Kong ILC office. (International Legal Council for the church.) We were both excited but a little surprised because of how the interview went... Adam and I spent all this time on his resume and cover letter to show how qualified he is to go to China. He made it very clear that he wanted to go to Hong Kong. The guy interviewing him took a quick glance over his resume and said "Oh you're from Denmark. Well, we don't have an office in Copenhagen." Adam called me after and said he was pretty sure he didn't get the Hong Kong internship, so he'd have to apply for another one. So when the phone call came it took us both a little by surprise. But we are really excited! We don't know all the details, but know that it will be 4-6 weeks, probably all of May and into June. One exciting coincidence is that my parents are going to China for a two-week tour in May so we'll get to see th
