The toilet 😬

Eve needed to use the bathroom when we were out for dinner the other night. Here is the toilet. Notice the lack of toilet paper. 
We found the TP outside the bathroom in the mall area, available for purchase. All part of the adventure!

Wait, are you telling me that little thermostat control box with a qr code is the toilet paper??? How much does it cost?5 cents a square??😆

 The day finally came for us to take the leap and go to China! Adam and the girls arrived Tuesday, routing through Shanghai. Bella and I arrived Wednesday. I flew with her separately on Korean Air as they are pet friendly. It was so exciting to be reunited—at our home in China! Thursday Adam and I went to the consulate and the staff took us to China Mobile for our Chinese phone numbers and to the bank for our local account. (I already think banks are incredibly boring but sitting in a bank where I don’t speak or read the language for over an hour while jet lagged took my dislike to a new level.) The consulate staff (US and local staff) took us out for a yummy lunch.That evening we attended a welcome dinner for us and two other new consulate families at the Consul General’s residence. (The Chinese embassy and ambassador are in Beijing. The other State Department offices in China are consulates with consul generals.) The Consul General, CG Lan, has her own chef and the food was amazing!

 Adam did a "TDY" or temporary tour of duty in Guangzhou for two weeks. The kids and I joined him for the first week, as the kids were off school. We felt very blessed, as the Department provided housing for us which was fantastic! It was a spacious three bedroom apartment and we had access to a breakfast buffet for a nominal price. The complex we stayed in is where all the consulate families there stay, so it gave us a feel for what a post in Guangzhou would be like. It was in a fantastic location, close to downtown, a beautiful city park, and the consulate. We had fun exploring the city--Guangzhou is very nice. Behind us is Canton Tower, a recognizable Guangzhou landmark. When it was first completed in 2009 it was the tallest tower in the world but was passed by the Shanghai Tower. Now it's the second tallest tower and fifth tallest free standing structure in the world. We went to the top one of the nights we were there.  The Guangzhou Circle was interesting to see. Acc
