When I was at the MTC, I heard life described like this: the days are like weeks and the weeks are like days. That's how life feels right now--long days but short weeks. Time is going fast (I can't believe Emmy is almost four weeks old!) but days and nights seem to go slowly as they are one big round of feeding, changing diapers, and trying to keep everyone happy. I've been trying to think what "bloggable" events have happened for us and can't think of a whole lot. Emmy is growing well. We're trying to figure out what's going on because she screams after she eats for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. I'm not sure if she's gassy, still hungry, wanting to be held, or just grumpy. She is the cutest thing ever though, as you will notice in the pictures. Mini is now done with swimming lessons and took great strides forward in blowing bubbles, doing bobs, floating on her back, climbing out of the pool from hanging on the wall, and overall gaining more s...

Olivia Lori Birk

So I am finally posting about the arrival of Olivia Lori Birk! She totally surprised me by coming a week early on October 24. At about 8:30 I started having some painful contractions, but continued with my day and had a bowl of cereal (which I saw again about an hour and a half later). I was absolutely in denial though because I was so convinced she would come in November. I sat down on the couch and started timing contractions at 8:50 and they were three minutes apart. So I called Adam and he, remembering how fast things went with Emily, got home right away. We dropped Mini and Emmy off at my wonderful neighbor's house and were walking in the hospital at 9:44. I went to the triage room and was at a 4. From there it was get my IV, get fluids and antibiotics, answer a million questions, all the while dying with the contractions. I got my epidural around 11 and they checked me right after and I was at a 9. My water broke at 11:50, and after 4 pushes Olivia Lori was born at 12:11. Now...

Merry Christmas!

It is quite the winter wonderland here in Provo! It has snowed a lot, plus it has been so cold that the snow in the streets hasn't melted. Adam commented the other day that it feels like we live at the North Pole. It's been so cold in fact that yesterday we went to start our car and it was totally dead. Lame! Especially since we've spent $1200 on the car in the last month. So we "invested" (Adam keeps telling me it's an investment) some more and replaced the battery. Anyway, the silver lining to the cold is that it's Christmas-time! Since I worked Thanksgiving night we did dinner on Friday. Thursday we decorated our house and it looks so cozy. It's so fun having Mini old enough to get what's going on. She had fun decorating and loves reading the Christmas books. This is Grandma Phyllis, my sweet 97-year old grandma, with Emmy on Thanksgiving. Despite her advanced Alzheimers she is still so cute with kids. Here's the usualy crowd gathered around...
